BackgroundMost of the CDs and softwares that produce binaural-beats have an option to produce beats that are set to the magical figure - 7.83Hz. Users tune into this frequency and entrain their brain, with the presumption that they are, indeed, in sync with the divine resonance playing out in the environment around them.However, it is a well-known fact that SR is a highly sensitive phenomenon, and can be easily impacted by diurnal, seasonal, local-weather-conditions, plus any fireworks that solar radiation may decide to play out. This implies that at any point of time, the global atmospheric electric circuit around you may be anything but 7.83Hz. The further implication of this is when you set out to meditate / entrain-your-brain, your resonating at this particular magic figure will be more out of coincidence than by design.If we proceed on the hypothesis that self-improvement lies on the path to resonating one's brain's waves to that of the atmospheric electric circuit (which is what Schumann resonances are), then we ought to strive resonating at the actual reading of the ELF value right at the moment when we sit down for an entrainment session. And not just hook ourselves to this 7.83 figure.A Possible Solution? A possible way to ensure that one is in sync with the environment is to have an ELF detection instrument handy. This is one suggestion to develop such an instrument, if you are an electronic-gadget hobbyist. The online market is full of such detection instruments, although I find confusion amongst some vendors as to where ELF band begins and ends. (A clearer definition is available here.)Armed with this instrument, you may perhaps first determine what the present SR is, and then proceed with the entrainment session.A caveat here, however. Any device having current carrying wires can generate EM radiation of different frequencies. Any wireless device that emits EM waves does so at certain frequencies. Some of them are in the ELF band. Which means that you have to be careful where you are sitting for the entrainment, so that you don't end up resonating with your cell/mobile! Perhaps retire in a retreat that does not have any of the modern trappings - no cells, no electricity, no nothing...In an earlier article, I spoke about hermits of yore going to mountain-tops to meditate. Was this one reason why they did so? To escape from the pollution on the ground?Final Word (Final Word?) Looked at this entire discussion holistically, entraining oneself at 7.83Hz per se does not really look like a cool idea, does it? All those softwares in the market, which have a special option to entrainment at this magical figure: whether they are really useful?Unless, somebody discovers that the brain does real cool things at this frequency - like triggering more Insulin production in the pancreas, for example, or persuading the thyroid to ooze optimum thyroxin without any motivation from the pituitary's TSH.Ah, more questions than answers.Sanjay Agrawal is a Business Coach and self-development enthusiast.
