Goal Setting Success - The Toilet Paper Effect

Author : Rick Seymour
If you are married, do you think there might be something you could do in the next 90 days that would make your marriage dramatically worse? Of course there is. Do you think there is something you could do in the next 90 days that would make your marriage better? I'm sure you could think of something! Do you think there is something you could do in the next 90 days that would make your job or business dramatically worse? Of course there is. Do you think there is something you could do in the next 90 days that could make your job or business better? You bet.The point of these questions is quite simple: whether your future gets better or worse is YOUR CHOICE! So, the first reality we have to face, is that our future is very dependent upon the choices we make. Have you been making the kind of choices that will lead you to your better future? Or, are there some choices you have been making that you need to change?
OK, So We Need To Make Better Choices Every DayIf we recognize that we need to change, what will motivate us to change? – especially knowing that most of us find change uncomfortable and resist even the smallest changes in our lives. Let's get real for a minute. Is the toilet paper supposed to roll from the top of the roll or the bottom of the role? Whatever it is for you, you know that this is "the way it is supposed to be." If it is not put on "properly", it tends to set us off and grumble about whoever it was that put it on last – assuming you can even get them to replace an empty roll! In fact, I know people for whom this tiny little change in their life upsets them so much, that as a guest in someone else's home they will turn it around! Yep, I've done it. If that little bit of change sets people off, what do you suppose really big changes do to them? The only reason we would ever suffer the discomfort of change, is because we have a good enough reason to change. We have to know WHY it is important to change. In fact, without an adequate answer to the question "Why?", ANY price is too high to pay! None of us will go through the discomfort of change without sufficient justification. Until we are convinced of the need to change, we will not even begin the attempt. If we recognize that we need to make better choices, if we recognize WHY we need to change – the question then becomes – HOW do we change? The choices we make are a function of how we think. So to make different choices, we have to have different thinking. Thus, the quality of our future will depend upon the quality of our thinking.
In summary, the three realities that we have to come to grips with are
1) Whether our future gets better or worse is our choice.
2) Without an adequate answer to the question "Why?", ANY price is too high to pay to change.
3) The quality of our future depends upon the quality of our thinking.By changing our thinking, we can change our lives. Your mind is a powerful thing. It is amazing what your mind is capable of even wehn chaglelend wtih seomtnhig new and unmfaliair, if you are oepn to it. Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh? Yaeh and I a awlys tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt!
