Definiteness of purpose is the second of Napoleon Hill's 17 Success Principles.Definiteness of purpose, says Dr. Napoleon Hill, is the starting point of all achievement. That should be quite obvious because all travelers know that if you know where you are going, it's easy to get there; but think of the reverse: if you do not know where you are going how do you get there?Whatever you want out of life, state if clearly in writing; writing your goal gives it life. Then you must have a clear plan for the achievement of your definite purpose. Once you have created a plan, you must start working that plan immediately whether you are ready or not.Definiteness of purpose is the key secret of achievement. Many people go through life not knowing what they really want and thus they dissipate their energy on many unrelated things. You must avoid this!State your definite purpose right now. It should be what you want most in life. Make your goal big and back it up with faith. Keep the thought of your definite purpose constantly in your mind. DR. Hills asserts that "any dominating idea, plan or purpose, held in the mind through repetition of thought and emotionalized with a burning desire for its realization is taken over by the subconscious mind and acted upon through whatever natural and logical means available".The foregoing quote is a great lesson in psychology and it contains the secret of all great achievers. Bulwer wrote:The man who succeeds above his fellows is the one who early in life clearly discerns his object and towards that object habitually directs his powers, even genius is nothing but fine observation strengthened by fixity of purpose. Everyman who observes vigilantly and resolves steadfastly, grows unconsciously into geniusEmbrace this success principle and watch how it will transform your life! Definiteness of purpose helps you to recognize, embrace and act upon, opportunities related to your objective. Dr. Hill says that definiteness of purpose inspires confidence in one's character and attracts to you the favorable attention of to others. It also makes you success conscious.
