Peeling Away the Layers of Self

Author : J.E. Gulamhussein
An easy metaphor to understanding your life would be to think of yourself as an onion. Once you observe yourself from this perspective you will begin to recognize each skin is a layer of yourself in the making. To understand who you truly are the layers will need to be peeled away in order to reveal the soul, which is the core of the self.Once you understand whom, how or what helped form and shape your personality, you will begin to understand and actually realize you have not been living a true sense of self.
From birth forward, you have been molded, shaped, modeled and coaxed into a variety of varying degrees of who you actually are intended to be. Everyone who has ever impacted your life, such as your parents, academia, lovers, friends, mentors and even clergy, people you've admired or even respected have had a hand in trying to fit you into some version of yourself. Often times, someone else's bias unfairly influences us in our thinking patterns, but because of the role they hold or play in our lives we may not question them and simply accept what they tell us as our own truth. The first step to healing is to accept yourself as you are now. Whatever you perceive as a flaw or an imperfection stop and see it as part of your masterpiece. It gives you character and strength. Imperfection can be a beautiful thing. Fill your own cup with what you personally choose. You do not require or need another soul's validation to know or believe that you are special in your own right. The fact that you are born gives you this value.Your parents' failures are not your failures. You do not have to pay debts you do not personally owe. Poor choices made in the past were part of your learning experience. When your awareness shifted you choose better. Never feel that you are less than anyone else. Your gifts are blessings and they are yours alone. They are invaluable. No one can take them from you. When you have a true sense of self, you gain true freedom. You know that whatever you offer will be your absolute best and others will recognize this in you. You will no longer feel insecure in work or in any areas of life because your validation comes from your inner strength the spiritual center of your core.
You need not depend on anyone for a sense of self. Our ego can go into many directions and cause us to disconnect with our perceived reality. However, when you know who you are and believe you are valuable, you will automatically know when something is authentic and when something is not.
You do not need to wade through your past, slaying each dragon, killing off beasts of burden. Make peace with the knowledge your past choices were made in survival mode. When your awareness was altered you made better choices. You will re-visit the past in order to consider and weigh in on the life decisions that you made. Reflection into your past will only be momentarily, as you choose to live fully in the present.Life isn't about blame it's about solutions. It's about accepting the complete self, including the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. Value all of it. Give yourself the permission to bury your past in peace. It can not be changed or altered, but we can learn from it. Understand there is a virtual doorway inside of your mind's eye. Once you choose to walk through it you will know you are leaving the ego infested past behind, no longer operating in survival mode only. You will choose to live your truth exactly as intended and not at the expense of your self.As a practicing soulologist, J.E.
