Sometimes we are engulfed and limited by our familial dysfunction. Generational baggage is easily passed and less easily unloaded. Saul himself hid among the baggage when God would have promoted him to be king of Israel (1 Sam. 10:22). How many of us are hiding among are familial baggage and personal past pains which have made us socially dysfunctional? Though Saul was a head taller than any of the others (v. 23), within he was smaller. What can we learn from king Saul? Men cannot be truly valiant unless God has touched their hearts (v. 26). Even still, thereafter, unless they remain obedient to God their greatness will be short lived.John said that Jesus would baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire (Lk. 3:16-17). The chaff Jesus burns with unquenchable fire. Chaff – the noun – is simply the husks of wheat, oats, or other grain and grasses, especially when separated from grain by threshing. Chaff is worthless stuff. God wants to burn away the chaff because it is useless and only serves to humiliate you. It is quite humorous that the verb chaff means to make fun of in a good-natured way before one’s face. When it comes to chaff, Jesus wants to burn it up. He therefore goes after it with unquenchable, unyielding fire.Chaff is shed forth through the threshing process. To thresh is to toss about and move violently. Life’s circumstances serve for us to be a threshing process. As we undergo that violent movement, shifting and shaking, our inner foundation is challenged. Then as we allow the Lord to reveal the faulty foundations upon which we’ve poorly built and hazarded our lives, He can begin to separate that which is worthless and establish us in His purpose.The above excerpt has been taken from Paul Davis' book "Holy Ghost Fire or Hellfire?
