Stretch Marks and Pregnancy

Author : Max Bellamy

Pregnancy brings some unavoidable problems with it backache, fatigue, queasiness, and, almost invariably, stretch marks. As the term of childbearing progresses (usually during the 6th or 7th month) something like 80% of all women can expect to find red striations to appear on the skin of the abdomen. Depending on the degree of change in weight gain, stretch marks can also develop on the upper thighs and waist. Some dermatologists attribute the susceptibility to stretch marks in pregnancy to heredity, so some women may be at greater risk than others. Whatever the case, this need not be cosmetic Armageddon. Since the pregnancy/stretch arks connection has been discovered, a lot of research has gone into tackling the problem. Pregnancy-related stretch marks can definitely be prevented and almost certainly minimized with the right precautions. For instance, pregnancy need not and should not equal indefinite and uncontrolled weight gain which is the main reason for stretch marks in pregnant women. In other words, it is important that the mother-to-be maintains a strict nutritional regimen (read no compulsive consumption of dill pickles, no matter how strong the craving). At any stage of the pregnancy, weight gain should stay within 20 to 30 pounds. A proper diet should also be supplemented with regular exercise like walking and stretching. With these precautions, weight gain will follow its naturally appointed course and the skin will not be subjected to abrupt stresses which it cannot accommodate. Maintaining proper body hydration by means of adequate water consumption will ensure that the skin stays moist and supple, thereby maintaining its elasticity and eliminating a major cause for stretch marks. In most Eastern countries, expectant mothers also receive daily oil massages with vitamin E and C-rich massage media to reduce the possibility of stretch marks we in the West would do well to take a leaf out of that book. The Best Marketing Tool: Forums

Author : Jacquelyn Butler
Forums are a great resource. You can learn so much in such a short period of time just from carrying on a discussion with a group of people.I spend a lot of time in forums. I love speaking to people with similar interests of my own and I will usually get questions about my own business and sometimes people will sign up or I will get a referral or two for a product or service.Another thing about Forums is you build relationships with people which mean they can see who they would be working with if they were interested in your Business. You can also find people to form outside groups if the discussion doesn't pertain to the forums interests. I have made a lot of online friends, found jobs and found opportunities all while playing and meeting new people on forums.Forums are also great for getting information about Home based business scams. Usually you will meet people who have been scammed by a business you are asking about or they know people who have been scammed by that particular business or work at home job.Tips for using Forums:1) First, you need to introduce yourself. People like to know who they are speaking to. You don't need to give a lot of detailed information; people just want to know where you are from and what you like to do.2) Post a picture in your Profile. People like to see who they are speaking to and it makes the conversations seem more real.3) Do not Spam a forum. Depending on the forum, some will have a special section for advertising or sometimes you have to be more active in discussions in order to advertise.4) Try to keep your opinions low-key and subtle to avoid heated discussions because if you are not careful you could get banned from a forum or the discussions can end up locked or deleted which are usually full of information and resources.5) Find out who the forum administration and Moderators are in case you are being threatened, spammed or harassed. Not that it happens often but it does happen. So if you haven't done so already I recommend you write down all your interests and then do a Google or Yahoo! Search based on your interests and then look for 'forums' or 'message boards' on your websites of things you like to do.Jacquelyn Butler is a freelance Internet Entrepreneur and a mother of one. Outsourcing: It Pays to Use Experts

Author : Debbie Jenkins
Let me introduce you to David. David is an expert. He lives on a beautiful farm in Spain. David is an expert in many things: almond growing, sheep herding, and wild boar rustling are just a few.But most importantly David is an expert Chumbos harvester. What's a Chumbos? A Chumbos is more commonly known as a prickly pear. The Chumbos tree grows rapidly in the southern parts of Spain, where it turns waste products (pooh to me and you) into fabulous fruit. My husband Marcus and I went to visit David to marvel at his expertise. Now, David had told us how wonderful this fruit tasted, and I couldn't wait to try it out.In my infinite wisdom, I grabbed a prickly pear off the tree. But here's the problem, it's not called a prickly pear for nothing. It's prickly! It does what it says on the packet. There are tiny pricks of excruciating pain - hundreds of them. They break off when touched and leave their length in your skin. They are almost impossible to remove as they are so fine. You have 1000s of nerve endings per square centimetre of flesh in your finger tips. It felt like every nerve ending on mine was on fire. I threw the pear to the floor and ran around the farm screaming - followed by a cacophony of farm yard animals.Well as you can imagine this attracted the attention of David. Did I tell you he was an expert?Well he quickly appraised the situation (as experts do) and calmly removed the prickles. He then took me by my other hand (the good one) and introduced me to his tool. It's a great big stick! About 6 feet long, with 6 inches of drainpipe lashed to the end to form a kind of "T".David then proceeded to show me how you use this ingenious tool. You lean precariously over into the Chumbos trees and balance on one foot. You shove the stick into the Chumbos and hook a pear with the drainpipe. Then with a twisting action you detach a pear and throw it (in one action) onto the ground. You then roll the pear around on the ground with your foot (obviously whilst wearing shoes) which has the miraculous effect of removing all the annoying prickles. You can then pick up the pear and with a rusty penknife (that appeared from the depths of David's pocket) you can cut open the fruit and get to the sweet bit - delicious!David is an expert. You should always listen to experts. They're the ones who tell you what can't be done and why and then go ahead and do it anyway. My husband Marcus tried this not long afterwards…Unfortunately he isn't an expert!Learning From OthersSo, what can we learn from David & Marcus that helps us understand why outsourcing is really great? It can be painful doing it yourselfWhen you tackle a task that you've never encountered before you may make mistakes. It's incredibly difficult knowing what's right for your business if you've never done this before. The pain can be simply wasting time - but quite often it can be the pain of wasting money AND losing opportunities. Can you afford to lose time, money and business opportunities? You don't always get what you wantedA poke in the eye with a sharp stick! The skills required to ensure a successful business are wide and varied. At first you'll be doing everything yourself, but as your client's requirements change and you need to adapt to meet their needs, you need to surround yourself with people who deliver results. When you develop your business yourself you only have your own resources to call upon which quite often leads to fewer opportunities for your business. There are steps in the processIf growing a business is something new to you, you may not be fully aware of the different steps involved in the process. It's important that the steps are carried out in the right order at the right time to ensure success. There are steps in every specialist skill that a growing business requires. How can you know what they all are? There are skills involvedYou may have never even heard of some of the skills required to grow a successful business. The terminology may be strange or new. Ensuring the availability of the right skill at the right time will make sure your business will make you money or save you money. There are tools involvedThe tools may appear strange or arcane - but these are the tools used by professionals. Tools that ensure the validity of your web pages so that the whole world can see them; tools that create pictures that tell a thousand words; tools that measure the effectiveness of your hard work; and tools that manage your database of prospects, moving them through the pipeline. You need expertise AND experienceBut most importantly, you need expertise and experience. The experience to know what tool is needed and at what stage. The experience to know what strategy will work best without lengthy trial and error. The experience to know how to move prospects through your pipeline and ensure they contact you. The experience that only comes from having been there and done this before. So, what skills do you have in-house? It's important to understand where your skills and knowledge can be used to best effect. Will your time be used at a strategic level - or will you get down to some hands-on tactics? If you don't have the skills in your own team, where will you get them from? This skills gap needs to be thoroughly inspected. You need to be honest with yourself. This could be a costly mistake if you get it wrong.Speak Soon,'Dangerous' Debbie Jenkins

Take a Hike and Make a Friend

Author : Rodney Whittle
Some of the most rewarding days that I have ever experienced have been taking a walk in the woods. I've been hiking since I was a boy in Georgia both alone and with friends and to this day when I feel shut in behind the desk at work the thing I most often daydream about is putting on my boots, grabbing a daypack and setting out for a good hike. I really can't think of another activity that rewards individuals in so many ways. There are of course, the physical benefits – cardiovascular exercise, strength training and fresh air for the lungs but hiking also affords many spiritual benefits as well, especially in the area of relationships.I can hike with people of all ages and I'm generally not to out of breath to have a conversation with them. I get to know them in ways that I never would while standing around the water cooler or watching a game on tv. When you are climbing over rocks and breaking a good sweat the things that often alienate people from one another like income, past arguments and misunderstandings, job stress or you name it often seem to slip away. People's barriers seem to be lowered when your out in the wilderness and they feel more freedom to just be themselves. Another good thing about taking a hike together is that regardless of the other person's physical abilities or age you can find the right trail that works for both of you. I've had great moments hiking with people that are my senior by 30 years and with my eight year old nieces as well. The former allowed me to learn and the latter allowed me to teach.Offer to go with someone on a short hike through a city park and test the waters of a new friendship. You can find out a lot more about them than you can at work or at a party. Taking a short local hike does not require the full commitment of going camping together and you can stop for a cup of coffee afterwards. People who may not be used to the outdoors would often love to get out for some fresh air and sun but the fear of going alone might prevent them from ever going. You can make a contribution to their lives that will be appreciated. All across the USA cities and states have invested millions of dollars to make trails available for you and a friend. A good place to search for locally available parks and activities is at http://www.packyourgear.com/ where you can find a nation wide database of parks offering trails, water activities and camping facilities. Invest in yourself and in someone else be getting out this weekend.Rodney Whittle enjoys the outdoors and maintains a web site that maintains a database of campgrounds and national parks and features articles about family camping and other outdoor experiences.
